Morning Launches - What to Expect

Hot air balloon launches take place early in the morning, before the cool night air starts to warm up and create turbulence. If you arrive late, you will miss the launch.

Gates open each morning 5:30am. Pilot briefing takes place at 5:45am, determining the safety of flight on that morning. The field is then opened for flight, opened for static displays, opened for candlestick displays, or put on a weather hold. Most days when balloons do fly, all pilots are off the field before 7:00am.

Once you have parked as directed, you are welcome to walk the field as the balloons inflate and launch. The balloon field is dog friendly, but please be aware that the burners are LOUD and dogs who spook easily should be left in the car. Dogs must be leashed at all times and must be cleaned up after immediately. Coffee and pastries are available for purchase from Wydaho Roasters. Porta-pots are available in the parking area.

When volunteer staffing allows, we will also provide our walk-through balloon and/or tether rides at the field one or more mornings.

If we don't fly due to weather -

The Teton Valley Balloon Rally is committed to safety as our first priority. There is always the possibility that we may not fly one or more mornings of the Rally due to weather conditions. The decision whether or not to fly is made by the Teton Valley Balloon Rally Balloon Meister each morning. We will never make an evening weather announcement about the following morning. Depending on the conditions, balloons may do static displays (inflate but stay on the ground) or candlestick displays (fire off the burners, but not inflate) if the field is not opened for flight.

No matter what the circumstances on the field on the morning of a weather flight cancellation, admission and camping fees remain non-refundable. Ultimately, your admission and camping fees support the ongoing work of the Teton Valley Balloon Rally,  and are an important part of what makes it possible for us to be here for you year after year. Admission passes for days that we do not fly may be rolled over to the next day upon request.
